REPUBLIC SERVICES SAYS SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR THE EARTH ON VALENTINE'S DAY
- Company Offers Tips to Turn Red into Green
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Phoenix, February 11, 2009 – You can show your love on Valentine’s Day and still be kind to the environment. Republic Services, a leader in the waste management and recycling industry, wants people to know that they don’t have to sacrifice romance to go green.
Republic is reminding the public to make good purchasing choices everyday, including special days like Valentine’s Day. If consumers choose carefully and think about the environmental impact of their gift, they can be creative and won’t have to compromise.
Republic offers these guidelines for Valentine gifts:
Reduce
- Consider purchasing “experiences” such as massages, spa packages, dinners and entertainment instead of material items.
- Write a song or a poem.
- Bake something.
Reuse
- Consider the packaging of a gift. Think about how it can be reused.
- Consider buying Valentine cards made from recycled paper.
- Buy items that are packaged in a recycled container.

Recycle
- Buy flowers and plants and recycle them by composting or drying them once they’ve died.
- Buy a flowering plant that can be enjoyed for more than a day and possibly be planted outside.
- Recycle cards after you’ve enjoyed them, if you don’t plan to save them for a lifetime.
