INDIANAPOLIS SANITATION WORKER HONORED FOR SAFE AND EXEMPLARY SERVICE
Rodney Poe Named 2010 “Driver of the Year” by the Environmental Industry Associations
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rodney Poe, a front-load truck driver for Republic Services, Inc. in Indiana, received a Driver of the Year Award in the Large Industrial Category from the Environmental Industry Associations (EIA).
“We are very proud of Rodney’s safety record, commitment to his company, and quality of customer service,” said Bruce J. Parker, President and CEO of EIA, a non-profit trade association that represents for-profit companies in the waste and recycling services and equipment industry throughout the United States.
Poe has been driving trucks for 33 years, the last 25 years with Republic Services, Inc., and has not had an accident. Today, he drives a roll-off truck on an industrial route with about 50 stops per week and an average of 569 miles of city driving in a heavily populated area. Clocking in at 2:45 a.m., Poe picks up a list of customers for a route that is different each day.
“I am really pleased to receive this award,” said Poe. “I am committed to driving safely and efficiently on my route and to keeping customers happy, and it’s great to be recognized for my record.”
Poe’s employer, Republic Services, is a leading provider of solid waste collection, transfer, recycling and disposal services. It operates 376 collection companies in 40 states and Puerto Rico and provides top-quality services to commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers. Republic serves millions of residential customers under contracts with more than 3,000 municipalities for waste collection and residential services. Its headquarters are located in Phoenix, AZ.
The awards ceremony took place in Atlanta as part of the waste industry’s national trade show, WasteExpo 2010 (www.wasteexpo.com).
