MELROSE PARK BUSINESSMAN HONORED BY SOLID WASTE INDUSTRY PEERS
Dan Gorske, Republic Services, to Receive “Special Governor’s Award”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, May 4, Dan Gorske, Director of Municipal Services for Republic Services, Inc’s Midwest Region, received the National Solid Wastes Management Association’s (NSWMA) Special Governor’s Award for years of service to NSWMA’s Illinois Chapter. NSWMA is the trade association representing private solid waste collection, recycling, and disposal companies throughout the United States.
Republic Services is a leading provider of solid waste collection, transfer, recycling and disposal services. It operates 376 collection companies in 40 states and Puerto Rico and provides top-quality services to commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers. Republic serves millions of residential customers under contracts with more than 3,000 municipalities for waste collection and residential services. Its headquarters are located in Phoenix, Ariz.
“Dan has been a leader in our Illinois chapter on waste franchise issues in Chicago and its suburbs,” said Bruce J. Parker, NSWMA’s President and CEO. “He has been active in meeting with officials and testifying on behalf of the industry. We are honored to recognize him for his service.”
Gorske began his career as a driver for Browning Ferris Industries, later moving to Allied Waste Services as Chicago market vice president, area vice president and Midwest region vice president. He joined Republic when the company was merged with Allied Waste in 2009.
“I am pleased to be recognized among my peers,” said Gorske. “Leadership and service to the solid waste industry is very important to me.”
The awards ceremony took place in Atlanta as part of the waste industry’s national trade show, WasteExpo 2010 (www.wasteexpo.com).
