Batteries should not be placed inside any residential cart.
- Batteries may be placed in a ziplock bag (either in one individual bag per battery, or multiple batteries in a single bag with the ends of each battery taped) and the bag placed on top of the lid of the blue recycling container.
Alternatively, batteries may be dropped off at a hazardous waste facility.
Fresno County, in partnership with the 15 incorporated cities throughout Fresno County, offers a program to County residents known as the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Network. The HHW Network is a collection of local drop-off sites that collect the five most common types of HHW: paint, household batteries, sharps, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, and e-waste. Network sites are limited to household quantities only and DO NOT accept business waste. For more information, please visit the County’s website at
Medical sharps should never be placed into household or public waste or recycling containers. All sharps should be placed into a SHARPS disposal container immediately after use to reduce the chance of injuries caused by loose sharps.
Medical sharps that are improperly disposed of can injure anyone that comes in contact with your trash including Republic Services crews and may pose a public health hazard.
Republic Services will provide residential customers one (1) free approved sharps disposal mailing kit upon request.
For more information or to request a sharps kit, contact customer service at 559-275-1551.

How to dispose of light bulbs depends on which type of light bulb(s) you have. Some light bulbs contain hazardous substances such as mercury, lead and arsenic, which are harmful to human health and the environment, even in small quantities. Light bulbs containing these substances should never be placed in any carts, bins or dumpsters.
The Community Clean-Up Program is available to single-family residences that receive City refuse services. This is a bulk curbside pick-up that is provided at no cost twice per year (once in spring and once in fall). The Spring cycle runs from the beginning of January to the end of June, and the Fall cycle runs from the beginning of July to the end of December. Fliers containing details of acceptable/unacceptable debris, as well as how to sort it for the clean-up, are mailed out to each eligible residence at the start of the clean-up cycle.
Please note: Some debris may be picked up earlier than your scheduled day, but the trucks will return on the scheduled day to pick up the rest of the debris. All debris should be out at the curb by 6 AM the day that your pick-up is scheduled. Debris may be placed at the curb no more than 2 weeks prior to your scheduled pick-up day.
Multi-Family Recycling Information
Recycling conserves natural resources, like trees and water, saves energy. Composting food scraps helps return valuable nutrients to the soil and reduces the amount of organic material ending up in landfills. Both are important in helping the City of Clovis meet county and state-mandated goals for reducing waste disposed in local landfills.
Under AB1826, you must comply with recycling your green waste (landscaping) and organic waste material. Republic Services can provide you with a green waste bin or you can contact your landscapers to compost/recycle any green waste material hauled away. Please download the

Business Recycling & Organic Bins
State Law Requires More Businesses to Compost, January 2019
Under State of California laws AB 341 and AB 1826, certain businesses and institutions are required to recycle and compost. As of January 1, 2019, the State requires more sites to have organics collection service; businesses and multi-family properties that generate 2 or more cubic yards of recycling and organics combined per week must have organics collection service.
Materials that must be composted include food waste, green waste, landscape and pruning waste, and non-hazardous wood waste.
AB 341 has required recycling at many businesses since July 1, 2012. Materials that must be recycled include bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard.

California's Mandatory Commercial Recycling and Organics Waste Recycling Law
The California Senate Bill 1383 is a statewide effort to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) by reducing organic waste disposal to 50% by 2020 and 75% by 2025. Organic waste in landfills emits 20% of the state's methane, a climate super pollutant 84 times* more potent than carbon dioxide. By taking the simple act of placing organic waste into an organics recycling cart instead of a trash cart, California residents are helping divert organic waste from the landfill and reducing these harmful emissions. Many California residents and businesses are required to recycle organic waste beginning January 1, 2022. Please refer to the jurisdiction in which you live and work to determine when organic waste recycling begins in your community. For more information, visit
*Rather than using the conventional 100-year time horizon for Global Warming Potential (GWP), CalRecycle uses a 20-year GWP for methane, as explained in response to Comment Number: 5-1 on page 2-63 of their
