Catharine Ellingsen is executive vice president, chief legal officer, chief ethics & compliance officer and corporate secretary for Republic Services. She is responsible for the company’s legal affairs and ethics & compliance program, ensuring Republic Services maintains its highly ethical and compliant culture for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Catharine’s functional responsibilities include legal services, board and corporate governance, ethics and compliance, public and government affairs, real estate, construction and facilities management, labor relations, enterprise risk management, security and business continuity.

Previously, Catharine was senior vice president, human resources.  Prior roles include vice president and deputy general counsel; associate general counsel; and managing corporate counsel. She joined Republic Services in 2001 as corporate counsel. 

Prior to Republic Services, Catharine was an attorney at Steptoe & Johnson LLP from 1996 to 2001 and at Bryan Cave LLP from 1993 to 1996. 

Catharine received a Juris Doctorate from the Washington College of Law at The American University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts.
