Smarter Collection, Cleaner Communities
Through technological advancements that make our fleet smarter and cleaner, we’re on a mission to reduce the environmental impact of recycling and waste collection.
Less Waste, More Recovery
With continued investments in technology across our recycling operations, we’re reducing contamination and recovering more recyclable material.
Stronger Gas Collection, More Renewable Energy
When food scraps, yard trimmings and other organic materials decompose in landfills, they generate biogas. We collect this resource and, where feasible, convert it into:
- Renewable natural gas (a low-carbon fuel that can substitute for natural gas)
- Electricity to support the public utility grid
- Thermal energy used to heat buildings or power industrial boilers
Safer Operations, Better Service
“Safe” is Republic Services’ top value. In 2025, we enhanced our leading Safety program to more formally integrate Environment, Health and Safety. This comprehensive approach helps strengthen compliance, support responsible operations and keep our colleagues and communities safe.
Smarter Land Management, Healthier Ecosystems
We utilize landfills to responsibly manage much of the waste we collect. Beyond our growing portfolio of LFGTE projects, we’re reimagining what a landfill can be by emphasizing the environmental and community benefits of the land we steward.
