And the Award goes to…
You would expect an organization that’s recognized as “most ethical” to be in a field like nursing, where compassion abounds. An award for “best employer” conjures up thoughts of a Silicon Valley tech company, with hip perks like an employee nap room and free ice cream. And the “gold standard” of corporate sustainability rankings sounds like an accolade that’s reserved for an elite coffee company, few could ever match. Those would be good bets. But these and other distinguished awards are also going to an unlikely recipient — us.Byline: BTB Editor

But these and other distinguished awards are also going to an unlikely recipient — us.
In the past year, we have been honored with inclusion on the:
- Dow Jones North America and World Sustainability Indices. While making these lists in itself is an achievement, Republic Services was the only recycling and solid waste company in the Commercial Services and Supplies sector listed on the World Index.
- CDP’s (Carbon Disclosure Project)Global Climate A List and the Supplier Climate A List. Only 3% of companies participating in the CDP supply chain program earned the distinction of being included on both lists.
- 2017 World’s Most Ethical Companies® list by the Ethisphere Institute. Doing things the “Republic Way” means doing them in an honest, responsible and ethical fashion, according to this global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices.
- Forbes America’s Best Large Employers list. To be named to this prestigious list you not only have to create a great place to work, your employees have to be willing to recommend you as an employer. In other words, we worked hard to create a great workplace and, overall, employees believe our strategy is working — especially for them.
And this week we learned that we were named to both the 2017 DJSI World and North America indices for the second consecutive year. In fact, Republic is the only recycling and solid waste collection provider included in the 2017 DJSI Indices.
We get that what we do — collecting waste, hauling and disposing of rubbish and sorting through recyclables is not glamorous work. We do not expect to see it portrayed on the big screen.
But, it’s something we excel at — we’re increasingly recognized for doing it with pride and differentiation. We’re not just talking trash. We’re living our values every day.
