Make a list. It’s easy to get distracted at the store, so plan ahead and make a list before you shop for school supplies to limit impulse buying.
Twice is nice. Before shopping for new items, sort through old supplies and repurpose or reuse anything workable from last year – items like pencils, folders and not quite empty notebooks are good examples.
Buy smart. Whenever possible, purchase supplies made from recycled or reused products – you will feel good about purchasing items that are helping the planet. It’s also a good opportunity to teach kiddos how to be conscientious consumers.
Opt for reusable items: Choose reusable containers and lunch boxes. It’s a simple way to create less waste and helps keep your child at the head of the ‘recycling’ class.
Get involved: Find out if your school has a recycling program and take part. If not, team up with administrators and teachers to start a recycling program that works for your school.
Remember the golden rule of recycling: Empty. Clean. Dry.™. It’s the golden rule of recycling. Always make sure your recyclables are EMPTY, CLEAN and DRY before tossing them in the recycling bin.
