We introduced our Elements of Sustainability in 2014 as the foundation of our sustainability policy. These elements, which are deeply integrated into our business, anchor our ambitious 2030 Sustainability
Our dedication to sustainability guides our
Safety. The nature of our business requires a relentless focus on safety and our dedication extends to our customers and into our communities. Safety is our top priority, and it is integrated into everything we do. But we don’t just talk about safety as a top value, we act on it. We have a recorded 38% better safety performance than the industry average over the past 10-year period (based on OSHA recordable rates). This past year, we also swept the industry's Driver and Operator of the Year awards. Our safety goal for 2030 is to have zero employee fatalities and reduce our OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate to 2.0 or less.Talent. Our employees demonstrate an unwavering commitment to serve our customers, communities, and each other. That's what inspires us to maintain an inclusive workplace where the best people from all backgrounds come to work. We are dedicated to listening to our employees and investing in the areas that keep us as an employer of choice. By 2030, we aim to achieve and maintain employee engagement scores of 88% or higher. We’ve made meaningful strides in our percentage of women in management positions. Women now make up 38% of our top leadership roles, more than double from 2019. We also unveiled two innovative talent retention and development programs – the Tech Institute and Leadership Academy.Climate Leadership. We are focused on delivering services and solutions for a more sustainable world, as well as partnering with our customers to help them reach their sustainability goals. In 2021, we announced development of the nation's first Polymer Center to advance plastics circularity and support recycled content goals. Additionally, we announced a landmark joint venture with Archaea Energy to develop 39 landfill renewable natural gas projects, the largest RNG portfolio to date in the country. Our 2030 goal is to increase recovery and circularity of key materials by 40% and increase beneficial reuse of biogas by 50%.iCommunities. Our charitable giving platform revolves around neighborhood revitalization and sustainability improvements, we know that investing in communities where our employees and customers live and work is critical. We directly support places and spaces in need with financial grants, in-kind donations, and volunteer time. This past year, that included a $2 million pledge toward Phoenix's Hance Park revitalization, our largest single charitable contribution to date. As part of our 2030 Sustainability Goals, we aim to positively impact 20 million people. To date, we have positively impacted nearly 6 million people through charitable giving.
