River Raisin Cleanup Supports Surrounding Communities

Recently the company partnered with several local, state and federal organizations to clean up and restore a large area of the River Raisin in Michigan. The River Raisin hazardous waste removal effort is the fifth cleanup project to be completed by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) since its creation in 2010.
The goal of the GLRI is to fix and eliminate harmful threats to the Great Lakes ecosystem; River Raisin Area of Concern (AOC) was one of these. In order to preserve the ecosystem of the surrounding area, US Ecology, in collaboration with several companies, remediated over 150,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment, restored 300+ acres of aquatic habitat, and made 23 miles of the River Raisin accessible for fish spawning and migration.
Southeast Michigan is home to many communities and businesses that are dependent on clean and healthy waterways. Job growth, wildlife expansion and overall economic prosperity are just some of the many benefits that will be seen throughout several local communities resulting from the restoration of the River Raisin AOC.
