Holiday schedule
We observe the following holidays:
New Year’s Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day
If your pickup day falls on one of these holidays, it will be picked up on your next service day.

Why is this change happening?
The waste industry has been transitioning away from manual collection for many years. Contractors are unable to attract and retain enough workers to manually collect the trash. This job is extremely physical, the workers are exposed to extreme heat and cold, and the safety risks make these jobs less desirable than other less physically demanding jobs that pay similar wages.
Trash carts will preserve and protect the aesthetics of the city by keeping the trash contained in a leak-proof cart and decreasing the animal and windblown litter throughout the neighborhoods. Carts will also enhance the level of customer service by providing a more consistent, reliable, and dependable service schedule for residents.
Delivery of gray trash carts will begin in February 2024. Once trash carts are delivered, residents will transition to once-per-week service for trash, recycling, brush and bulk. Stay tuned for more details.

Collection Services
Once trash cart service begins, when there is a holiday during the work week, the collection days will be delayed by one day. The City will provide a calendar of the holiday pickup schedule and ample notice during each affected holiday.
When you receive your cart, you can also expect to receive a calendar that will illustrate your collection days during holiday weeks.
Cart collection on narrow or crowded streets may provide many challenges, and the City will need residents’ help to keep the areas around trash and recycling carts clear to ensure the trucks can perform their duties. When the new carts are first delivered, every household will receive a brochure showing how the carts should be placed at the curb.
Carts should be placed with the wheels against the curb or edge of an alleyway or street. They must be 3 feet apart and a minimum of 15 feet of overhead clearance so they can be serviced on collection day.
- All trash, recycling, brush, and bulky must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
- All trash bags must be inside the trash cart with the lid fully closed.
- Bags of trash outside of the cart may not be collected.
- All recycling must be inside the recycling cart with the lid fully closed.
- Recycling outside of the cart may not be collected.
- Two cubic yards of large household items collected each week. (2 cubic yards is the size of a washer and dryer.)
- Up to 2 cubic yards of bundled brush and/or bagged leaves may be collected each week. Bundled brush and bagged leaves should weigh less than 35 pounds and may be placed next to your trash cart. (2 cubic yards of leaves is approximately 12 to 15 30-gallon bags.)
- Carts should be placed with the wheels against the curb or edge of the alleyway.
- There should be 3 feet of space between a cart and any other item (vehicle, mailbox, brush pile or bulky items).
- There should be a minimum of 15 feet of overhead clearance.
Carts
Residents are responsible for keeping their trash and recycling carts clean and sanitary.
To maintain the trash cart(s) odor free, make sure to:
- Drain all liquid from containers
- Bag all the trash and tie the bags
- Regularly wash the trash cart with soap and water or bleach and water to control any odor.
The City will offer two sizes for trash carts:
- 95-gallon carts (the standard size for trash carts)
- 65-gallon trash carts (the same size as the current recycling carts)
A typical 95-gallon trash cart can hold approximately 10 13-gallon (kitchen-sized) trash bags. The dimensions are:
- Width: 28 inches
- Depth: 32.1 inches
- Height: 43.2 inches
A typical 65-gallon trash cart is about the same size as your recycling cart and holds six 13-gallon trash bags. The dimensions are:
- Width: 24.4 inches
- Depth: 27.5 inches
- Height: 41.5 inches
All residents will initially receive a 95-gallon trash cart as part of the cart roll-out plan. Then after June 1, 2024, a resident may request to downsize to a 65-gallon trash cart. There will be one monthly rate for trash and recycling collection services for all residents, regardless of the trash cart size.
All trash must be contained within your trash cart, as any bags outside of the cart may not be collected.
If one 95-gallon trash cart is not sufficient, additional 95-gallon trash carts may be requested for an additional fee (maximum of three 95-gallon trash carts per residence).
The standard 95-gallon trash cart that is collected once a week should accommodate most households. Typically, about 10 13-gallon (kitchen-sized) bags fit in a cart. Residents who generate more trash than will fit in one 95-gallon trash cart will be able to request an additional 95-gallon trash cart for a fee (maximum of three 95-gallon trash carts per residence).
Bags of trash outside the cart may not be collected.
Cost
Special Circumstances
Residents who are mobility challenged or visually impaired may receive door-side assistance service for their trash and recycling carts.
To qualify for door side assistance:
- There must be no other physically capable resident in the home.
- Documentation such as a doctor’s note or a handicap vehicle placard must be provided.
A light blue lid will be placed on the cart(s) to signify to the route driver that the container is to be collected and returned to the agreed upon collection point.
