We offer one-stop shopping for all of the city's waste removal needs. Although we specialize in recycling and solid waste collection, our services go far beyond just emptying the trash bins.

City of Golden Fall Yard Waste Collection Days November 3-7, 2025, on your service day
Yard waste will be collected by a separate truck on your designated trash collection day and should be placed near where your trash is collected, and out by 7 a.m. Materials may be placed in your organics cart, bundled or in certified compostable bags (available for purchase at The Home Depot and other home improvement stores). Yard waste for this collection is limited to grass clippings, pine needles, leaves, weeds, branches, sawdust, ground wood or chipped wood.
Yard Waste Collection Guidelines
- Branches must be less than 4“ in diameter and bundled with natural fiber string, yarn or rope (like cotton or sisal).
- Do not use wires, nylon, polyethylene, or other synthetic materials for bundling.
- Yard waste is limited to 3 cubic yards per resident (equivalent to an area approximately 4’ x 4’ x 4’ or 21 certified compostable 30-gallon bags.
- Material that is not in your organics cart, bundled or in certified compostable bags will not be picked up.
- Look for green “BPI Compostable” label on products that can be commercially composted!

Collection Guidelines & Reporting an Issue
Service Tips
- Please place carts out by 7 a.m. on your scheduled service day with the lid facing towards the street/alley at least 2 feet apart.
- Please make sure when carts are placed at the curb/alley they are 3ft away from objects such as mailboxes, electrical boxes, and parked cars.
- We encourage you to place trash in a bag before tossing in the trash cart with Black Lid
- Do not bag your recyclables, just place them directly in the recycle cart with Blue Lid.
- Do not use plastic bags for compost material, you may use compostable or paper yard bags before tossing in your compost cart with the Green lid.
- Do not contaminate your carts.
- Please avoid placing rocks, concrete, and/or dirt in carts to avoid overweight carts.
- The Pay-As-You-Throw service is cart content only. The lid must be fully closed on all three carts.
- For any excess material, you would need to purchase extra trash stickers for $3.72 per sticker, and/or change the size of the cart.
- Trash Stickers can be purchase at Golden City Hall (911 10th St in Golden or by emailing payments@cityofgolden.net with your full name, address, phone number, and a request for the specific number of trash stickers. City staff will call for payments and mail the stickers to the customer to be placed on a 32-gallon bag.
Reasons waste may not be collected:
• Cart too far from the curb
• Cart facing the wrong direction
• Overfilled or overweight cart
• Insufficient space to service cart/car blocking the cart
• Unacceptable material in cart
• Incorrect cart size

Valet services for households with physical or mobility disabilities. The City will pay for valet services to pre-approved households showing a State of Colorado Disability Parking Placard.
Recycling Questions
- Plastics #1-#7 check the bottom of the container. If you see the recycling symbol with a #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 in the center, it is acceptable.
- Metal containers, including aluminum cans (do not crush), aluminum foil, pie and baking pans, tin cans, steel food containers, EMPTY aerosol cans, and lids, metal jar lids (remove from the jar).
- Cardboard boxes including corrugated cardboard (flattened), shipping boxes, cereal, and dry food boxes, shoe boxes, tissue boxes, moving boxes, detergent boxes, soda/beer cartons, and paper towel/toilet tissue rolls.
- Paper items including newspapers (including inserts), bulk or junk mail, magazines, mixed paper, office paper ((no shredded paper), phone books, paperback books, and brown paper bags.
- Glass containers including bottles and jars (no Pyrex®) with no lids and generally clean of all food and liquid waste.

Non-recyclables contaminate recycling loads, and need to be removed during the sorting process. Some items may also contaminate clean recyclable items (ex. pasta sauce jar with sauce still in it, can soak into clean office paper which is then no longer recyclable either).
If our drivers notice a lot of contamination in your recycle cart or bin, we may not be able to service it as recycling and may tag it to have it serviced as trash (in which case you may be charged).
New to organics collection? Nothing to fear! Similar to the recycling services, simply put any items on the list of acceptable materials in the new green Organics collection cart. Yard and garden waste can go directly into the cart, while kitchen waste can also go directly in the cart or can be placed in plant-based bags or paper bags for a cleaner cart. Most certified compostable bags are a shade of green to distinguish them from other plastic bags. Trusted brands include BioBag, Bag-To-Nature, Glad Compostable, BioSak, EcoSafe, EcoGuard, and Nature Friendly. All of the following materials are acceptable in the organics cart:

Semi-Annual Yard Waste Pickup. Similar to previous years, Golden will continue to provide a Spring and Fall leaf and branch pickup. Please watch for details about the next planned curbside pickup in November.

Large item pickup is available for all PAYT customers
