Holiday schedule
We observe the following holidays:
New Year’s Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day
If your pickup day falls on one of these holidays, it will be delayed by one day. For example, Thanksgiving falls on Thursday. Service normally provided on Thursday will shift to Friday, and Friday will shift to Saturday.

Free landfill dates are the 2nd Saturday of the month excluding January and December.

We are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. When one of these three holidays falls on a weekday, collection service will be delayed one day. For example, on Thanksgiving, Thursday routes will run on Friday; Friday routes will run on Saturday.

Recycling
Commonly accepted recyclables include: paper, plastic, cardboard, and aluminum.
NOTE: all recyclables must be
- Dry newspapers, catalogs and magazines
- Junk mail, envelopes
- Cereal boxes
- Cardboard
- Chipboard all placed inside a brown paper grocery sack
- Cardboard must be broken down flat. (Excludes tissues, wet paper or paper contaminated with food products)
- All colors of glass bottles and jars (excluding plate glass, mirrors, windows, ceramics and other glass products)
- All metal food and beverage cans with all food and food waste removed (excluding aluminum foil)
- Number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7 plastics including milk jugs, liter bottles, shampoo bottles, etc. (excluding butter tubs or containers with openings as large as the container, or bottles that contained oil or petroleum by-products. Remove all caps.)
- Telephone books only when Southwestern Bell Telephone distributes new books
- The customer must use the recycling container provided but can bundle or tie newspapers and place them on or beside the container
- Mixed paper (i.e. junk mail, cardboard, cereal boxes, etc.) must be placed inside a brown paper grocery sack.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Waxed & Carbon Paper, Food & Liquid Waste (Soiled Materials), Solid Waste & Yard Waste, Hazardous E-Waste

Hazardous materials may be disposed of at the
Attention: This service is free to the Citizens of Hurst; however, the City is charged per disposal, whether it is a single can of paint or 50 cans. As a result, we ask that you collect several items within your household or with your neighbors to dispose of at the Collection Center.
- Recycling containers shall be used exclusively for recyclable materials. No other container shall be used for curbside collection of recyclable materials.
- No recycling container should be so loaded as to weigh more than fifty (50) pounds.
- Recyclable materials containing water or other liquids should be rinsed and drained, and dry before being placed in a recycling container.
- Recycling containers shall be placed at curbside (on the house side of the curb not in the gutter) by 7:00 a.m. of the assigned day but not more than twelve (12) hours before the scheduled recycling collection day or alternate day if the scheduled pickup day falls on a holiday.
- Bins should be removed from curbside no later than 7 P.M. on day of collection.
- Recycling containers shall be placed and maintained so that their contents are not scattered by wind.
