Recycling Questions
Recycling has many environmental benefits including the conservation of natural resources, energy savings, and pollution reduction. For added convenience, Sunrise residents may drop off single-stream (all in one) recyclables free of charge at the Sunrise Gas Department Recycling Drop-Off, 4401 NW 103 Ave. Sunrise, FL., 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Recyclable materials consist of the following:
ONLY place these items in the recycling container (remove any food or liquid):
Paper
- Newspapers, inserts, catalogs, magazines, junk mail, office paper, soft-covered books, file folders, soda cartons, and crushed boxes from items such as cereal, tissues, rice, and pasta (plastic packaging material must first be removed from newspaper).
Cardboard
- Cardboard from non-food items such as shipping boxes (all corrugated cardboard must be broken down, folded, or cut into the same size as newspapers, or included with newspapers)
Plastic
- Plastic containers (narrow necks only) such as bottles, as well as milk, water, detergent, and shampoo containers (rinsed out)
Glass
- Glass food and beverage containers, milk/juice cartons, and drink boxes (rinsed out)

Non-recyclables contaminate recycling loads, and need to be removed during the sorting process. Some items may also contaminate clean recyclable items (ex. pasta sauce jar with sauce still in it, can soak into clean office paper which is then no longer recyclable either).
If our drivers notice a lot of contamination in your recycle cart or bin, we may not be able to service it as recycling and may tag it to have it serviced as trash (in which case you may be charged).
Residents in single-family homes have bulk trash picked up on the first day of their weekly garbage collection.
Multi-family communities with designated bulk trash areas may have a different schedule. Under this plan, items are removed the same day they are scheduled to be placed outside for collection. To determine your neighborhood's schedule, please click on the link below.
