Services
Republic Services provides solid waste and recycling services for all residents of The Colony.
Customers may call City of The Colony at 972-624-3131 to set up service, report missed pick-ups, repair/replace carts, request additional carts, or for questions regarding your bill.
- Trash and recycling are collected one time per week.
- Green cart is for trash.
- Blue cart is for recycling.
- Roll-out carts and bulky items must be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on collection days.
- Bag all trash before placing in cart to prevent loose trash from flying out of cart during pick up and/or windy days.
- Do not put yard trimmings, dirt, soil, concrete, construction debris or
household hazardous chemical waste in carts. - Place carts at least 3 feet apart from the nearest object such as fences, trees, utility boxes or other carts.
- Return carts to your residence or storage area within 24 hours after service (per city ordinance).
- Trash & recycling trucks operate using an automated system and drivers do not leave their trucks.
- Please make sure all items are inside the carts and lids are completely closed.
- Failure to comply with the set-out guidelines may result in non-collection.
- Additional trash carts are available by request. A monthly charge will be applied to your utility bill for each additional trash cart.
- Additional recycling carts are available at no extra charge.
- Special consideration and assistance may be provided for elderly or physically-challenged residents by contacting City of The Colony Environmental Services at 972-624-3131.

Recycling
Commonly accepted recyclables include: paper, plastic, cardboard, and aluminum.

Recyclable materials include:
- Glass - All colors of glass bottles can be recycled. Please rinse containers and discard lids. No plate glass, ceramic or mirrors are accepted.
- Junk Mail, Cardboard, and Mixed Household Paper - Place all junk mail, envelopes, cereal boxes, cardboard, chipboard and any other household paper product inside your bin. No tissues, wet paper or paper contaminated with food products are accepted. All cardboard must be broken down to a size that will fit inside your recycle bin. Larger boxes can be placed under your recycle bin. Only flattened boxes will be accepted.
- Metal - All tin and aluminum food and beverage cans can be recycled. It’s not necessary to remove the label, but please remove the lids and rinse food waste from the cans. Aluminum foil is not accepted.
- Newspapers, Magazines, and Catalogs - Newspapers, catalogs and magazines can all be recycled in your recycle bin. Do not bundle newspaper or place in bags.
- Plastics - Number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 plastics (milk jugs, liter bottles, shampoo bottles, etc.) can be recycled. Please remove all caps. No butter tubs or containers with openings as large as the container or plastic bottles that have contained oil or petroleum by-products are accepted.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Waxed & Carbon Paper, Food & Liquid Waste (Soiled Materials), Solid Waste & Yard Waste, Hazardous E-Waste
We do NOT recycle the following materials:
Batteries - never place these in your trash or recycling.- Carbon paper
- Clothing, Textiles, or Linens
- Diapers and Pet Pads
Electronics - Fluids or Food waste (soiled materials)
- Mirrors or ceramics
- Stickers & address labels
- Styrofoam, tissue, paper towels, or napkins
- Plastic-coated paper
- Waxed paper
- Window glass
Light bulbs - Ceramics
- Cookware
- Hardcover books
- Polystyrene foam plastic (even if it has the recycling symbol)
- Plastic Toys
- Shredded Paper
- Solid Waste and Yard waste
Hazardous E-waste - Tanglers (garden hoses, wires, chains or electronics)
