The Challenge
Two decades ago, a large national chemical manufacturer needed a dependable waste handling partner. They were dissatisfied with the service levels of multiple vendors managing different waste streams, which created inconsistent services, inefficiencies, unreliable scheduling and a lack of on-site support.
Republic Services first stepped in to handle recycling and solid waste transportation. As the relationship grew, the chemical company turned to Republic Services for more services — asking us to provide tank trailers and daily pickups, then hazardous waste transportation and disposal and later piloting onsite services at two locations. With each expansion, the company gained confidence in Republic Services’ responsiveness, compliance expertise and ability to manage complex waste needs.
Recognizing the value of consolidating waste services under one trusted partner, the chemical manufacturer eventually expanded the field and industrial services and hazardous waste solutions into five Houston-area sites, while continuing the trial run for onsite services at two locations.

Step-by-step expansion of services
Beginning with recycling and waste hauling, Republic Services gradually added tank trailers and hazardous waste disposal to all locations and a pilot on-site service coordination program at two locations. Hazardous waste pilot program
Republic Services successfully managed three trial hazardous waste loads to the Robstown facility, providing faster turnaround and strong customer feedback. This pilot led to broader hazardous waste services across the company’s Houston sites.
On-site waste coordinator
Republic Services placed a dedicated coordinator who rotated between two locations five days a week, conducting inspections, managing scheduling and providing monthly compliance reporting. This
relieved the company of administrative burdens and improved efficiency.
Transportation efficiencies
One of the most impactful changes was eliminating a costly, time-consuming 9-hour trip to a competitor’s facility in Oklahoma. By leveraging Republic Services’ Robstown Facility in Texas, the chemical company reduced transportation dramatically, achieving both cost and environmental benefits.
