The St. Louis Recycling Center, anticipated to be operational by 2028, will serve Greater St. Louis and the surrounding area. With higher capacity and more advanced technology than current operations in the region, the state-of-the-art facility will help reduce contamination and boost recycling rates.

St.-Louis-Recycling-Center

Covering 105,000-square-feet, the recycling center is estimated to manage recyclables from approximately 3 million people throughout Greater St. Louis and surrounding communities.

The high-capacity facility will process up to 45 tons, or nine truckloads, of single-stream recyclables per hour.

This location will accept a wide range of recyclables, including paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and jugs, aluminum and metal food and beverage cans, and glass bottles and jars.

Cutting-Edge Recycling Technology

St. Louis Recycling Center is designed with state-of-the-art recycling technology, including:

  • A minimum of 10 optical sorters that use digital recognition to identify and separate paper or plastic in milliseconds
  • Screening technology that sorts material by size and removes unrecyclable material from the stream
  • AI systems that reduce contamination and make real-time adjustments to maximize the volume of materials recycled
